Starston Tower Ringers
Finally the extension to the ringing room has been completed and the new carpet laid.
A ringers' dinner was held on 21 December and polo shirts with a special 'STARSTON' logo, produced by a local business, Retro Alley Garment Printers, have been provided to the ringers in recognition of their commitment and regular service. A special service to dedicate the extension and carpet is being arranged for 4th March and in memory of Julie's mother, Pat Shimmon, who died last year and whose birthday was the 5th March. Poppy Appeal 2011/12
The Harleston branch very sincerely thanks the residents and businesses of Harleston and district for their very generous support of the 2010 appeal, which ended on September 30th 2011. The sum of £7,975.77 was donated of which £2,205.51 was collected by our house to house collectors and £2,366.21 was collected by the static points (shops, banks etc).
The 2011/12 appeal commenced on October 1st and has raised just under £7,000 to date. We are well on the way to reach or maybe beat the 2010/11 record of £7,975.77.
Thank you all. Gilbert S Clarke, Poppy Appeal Organiser
News from Age UK
Bereavement Advice Service
Age UK Norfolk Bereavement Advice Service provides practical support to older people who have been bereaved and have no family or friends to assist them.
The service is free and confidential and can help with registering the death, arranging the funeral, contacting solicitors, checking benefits, sorting out state and private pensions, completing forms etc. Referrals to the service can be made by GPs, social workers, funeral directors, solicitors, police etc and, of course, by the older persons themselves.
If you are making a referral on someone else's behalf, it is essential that you have their permission to do so. This service is not a counselling service but if someone requires counselling or befriending Age UK can make a referral to an appropriate provider.
Age UK is looking for volunteers to help deliver this service. If you could provide independent support to an older bereaved person by obtaining the necessary information and offer practical help, Age UK would love to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more, please contact Age UK Norfolk on 01603 787111
