Granny's Sayings

When I was a little boy, my granny had a saying to suit every occasion.  Here are just a few of them – still applicable today! You will never look smart unless you shine your shoes. The bigger the man, the bigger the crook! Never be envious of flash people in smart cars – they've spent their money! If you pick dandelions, you will wet the bed. Never buy anything unless you've got the money to pay for it. A little praise goes a long way. Always take pride in yourself. Hard work never hurt anyone. Always stand up and offer a lady your seat. Manners maketh man.                 Peter Cockle

Harleston Community Crafts

We meet weekly on a Thursday morning at the Jay's Green Centre from 9.30am-12 noon. We are a very social group where members bring their own handicrafts, and these include, but are by no means limited to, knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery and various forms of painting, sugarcraft and beadwork.

We have workshops every four to six weeks, which are run by either a member or an invited guest specialist.

We welcome new members and if you do not have a craft but would like to join us, do come along and someone will help you find something to your taste.

For more information please call Pat Woods on 853664.

Harleston Choral Society

HARLESTON CHORAL SOCIETY, your local community choir, welcomes everyone, whether you have sung in choirs all your life or have never sung in a choir before and don't read music.  There are no auditions and all music is provided free.  Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30 pm, and on occasional Saturday mornings, in Harleston Junior School, School Lane, Harleston.

We are always looking for new singers, and we guarantee you a warm  welcome - so if you are interested in joining us, come along on Monday 13th September at 7pm (start date time only) for our new term.

Our Christmas Concerts will be on Saturday 11th December, in St John's Church, Harleston, and on Wednesday 15th December in Burston Church.  And from Monday 10th January we will be rehearsing for our Spring Concert, when we will be singing Haydn's Nelson Mass.

Grant awarded to Alburgh Village Hall

Alburgh Village Hall has been awarded a grant of £5,000 from Grass Roots, which is a part of Norfolk Community Foundation, and £1350 from South Norfolk District Council. Together with help from Alburgh Parish Council this will enable a new kitchen and replacement windows and lights to be installed.

This will further improve the hall and together with the recently installed disabled toilets and access makes the hall a good venue for all types of function. A bar is already installed with very competitive hiring prices.

To hire the hall please contact
Mr E Renaut on 01986 788664.
