The new look WEA (Workers Educational Association) is alive and well in Harleston.
The Branch now meets for shorter courses of 6 two -
Our last course on Discovering Timber Framed Building of East Anglia was well supported. The tutor, John Walker guided us through the development of East Anglian building styles and techniques from early medieval to late Tudor with the aid of his skilled use of Power Point. These were then compared to contemporary buildings in other regions. We are now looking forward to a field trip in the spring visiting notable examples of timber framed buildings in Suffolk.
There is also a local flavour to our spring course on East Anglian Artists with tutor and art historian Wanda Standley. This course will explore the works of artists who painted in the East Anglian countryside including Gainsborough, Cotman, Munnings and Seago. Start date 22nd April, fee £34.
In the meantime we are hoping to organise some Saturday day schools on one off subjects such as archaeology and Italian cinema and an autumn course on modern Russsia. We welcome feedback to know if there is any support for these subjects together with any other comments and suggestions.
WEA courses are informal, friendly, taught by well qualified tutors and no previous experience of a subject is required. They are completely free to anyone receiving statuatory benefits and their dependants.
