Young Farmers

In November we joined with quite a few of our young Countrysiders for an interesting tour of Ben Burgess where we were shown around their workshops, yard and various storage areas. We were amazed at the number of ideas the company has come up with over the years. like hiring out tractors and potato harvesters, not just in the UK but abroad, and the rewinding of traditional motors in their workshop space. We were also told the company's low-loaders are currently being kitted out with new technology which enables the exhaust gases to be used a second time, therefore being more energy efficient.

We held our annual dinner dance at the end of November at the Apollo Club. This was a very successful evening both socially and financially. Members and advisers from our club and other Norfolk clubs attended along with partners. After the three course meal, Club President Richard Mortimer gave a welcome speech followed by Club Chairman Daniel Peck who thanked Al Mingay for his two years as President. Daniel also explained what a great time he had being Chairman and thanked Joe Peacock for standing in while he was away working; there were also highlights from the 2011 national AGM. Joe Peacock, the current chairman then said he hopes that the club continues going from strength to strength and thanked Daniel for his time in charge. Club trophies were won by Lewis Rushmer, newcomer to stock judging, Sarah Peck, most efficient female and Nick Wilby who won the wooden spoon award. Music was then provided by Gavin Whurr, our sponsor who runs Hi-Lites Roadshow.

The next meeting saw around 20 members going Tubing down the dry ski slope in Trowse and the following Wednesday members did some human painting at the clubhouse (basically rolling around in paint and making a mess!).

In December we had a Carol singing meeting at Kevin Renaut's and Nick Wilby's homes and the following week we had our Christmas meal at The Scole Inn where we had a delicious three course meal in a fantastic venue.

January 2012 saw us swapping any unwanted Christmas gifts or other random items, a talk by Kate Brewster from Dogs Trust and a trip to see Wymondham YFC's annual  Pantomime.

The next big social event is in February and will be the 90s Reunion Night at Morley Village Hall near Wymondham with current Harleston members running the bar.

Please call Joe Peacock for more information on 07580045470 about becoming a member if you are 16 - 26years old.
